On behalf of the organizing committee, which is, as always, the Czech Winemakers’ Guild, we invite you to the 6th year of the renewed international wine competition For the Cup of Charles IV, a competition specialized only in two royal varieties that are associated with the legacy of Charles IV: Riesling and Pinot Noir.
You may be wondering why, but in the past we have been aiming the competition towards a special award for Pinot Noir and we have been constantly developing this idea. After all, where else but in Bohemia and at a competition named after Charles IV. should these beautiful and terroir wines compete. Therefore, if you want to find out how you stand with Riesling or Pinot Noir in a global confrontation, register... !!!
The competition is open to all wines from these varieties - white, rosé, red and sparkling (more information in the statute). In addition to medals, the winning wines will also receive awards in the form of cash or valuable gifts in kind from the competition partners, for the best wine in the categories: champion of the competition, best Riesling, best claret/rosé, best Pinot noir and best sparkling wine. There is also a prize for the best wine from the Bohemia wine region. The wine category is limited by residual sugar according to the statute and a minimum share of 50% of the given variety in the cuvée.
Our mission and goal is to continue to raise interest in wine in the Czech Republic and bring the best Czech, Moravian and foreign wines from these unique varieties closer to all residents of the Czech Republic. At the same time, we want to professionally assess wines from various wine regions, municipalities and routes, and thus support the production and sale of wines and with respect to their place of origin.
The official announcement of the results of the competition will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at the St. Vorsila Monastery in Kutná Hora from 5 p.m. The event will also include a professional conference on the topic of these two noble varieties.
More information about the conference and previous years and the conference can be found at www.opoharkarlaiv.cz
We can’t wait for November 12, when your wines will be evaluated by carefully selected tasters who have a passion for our selected varieties.
